Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro exercised his right to vote at the municipal elections underway in Cuba to elect the delegates at the Municipal Assemblies of the People´s Power.

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 19 (acn) Over 2 million Cubans voted in the first two hours, almost 29 percent of all registered voters, according to a report issued at 9 am by the national Electoral Commission (CEN)

Cuba´s First Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel said in Havana he voted to fulfill his right as citizen.

Over 300 university students are working as observers in the municipal elections in the Cuban westernmost province of Pinar del Rio, and thousands more are in polling stations throughout the country.

The President of the National Electoral Commission (CEN) Alina Balseiro, said municipal elections are running in Cuba in a successful and safe way.

The First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Havana, Mercedes López Acea, said Cubans are responsible to build the society they dreamt of in this day that shows the true values of the Revolution.

At seven sharp this morning, 24,646 polling stations scattered throughout Cuba opened their doors to allow over eight million Cubans to exercise their right to vote at the municipal elections.

In order to establish a practical and effective mechanism for political consultations between foreign ministries, which would promote dialog, Cuba and Ireland signed in this city a Memorandum of Understanding.

The president of Nicaragua´s Supreme Court Alba Luz Ramos said in Managua that they will request the membership of Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Judicial Council.

Urban and family gardening contributes 50 percent of the country´s vegetable production with over one million Cubans involved in this developing initiative.
