Cuba's best athletes in 2014 will be announced today, in a year of several world championships in various sports and the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz.

Cuban chess player Lázaro Bruzón won with 12 points the Blitz event and remained on top of the classical contest ITT Millonario, which ends today in the Colombian city of Bogota.

The Cuban baseball championship will resume hostilities today amid a relentless struggle between the teams for accessing the second round, when remaining only 12 days for closing the preliminary phase.

Lázaro Bruzón, Yuniesky Quesada and Isam Ortiz will be among Cubans attending today the chess tournament ITT Millonario de Navidad, in the Colombian city of Bogotá.

With a harvest of 123 gold, 66 silver and 65 bronze medals, Cuba concluded on top of the standings of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games Veracruz 2014.

The joys of Cuba lasted until the last day of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, although the biggest Caribbean nation had already won the whole competition, Richer Pérez and Dailin Belmonte earned gold and silver medals in that order in the marathon event to increase the festivities.

The Cuban Angel Fournier is confident that he will win the triple crown in the rowing tournament of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, after qualifying to the final of the men´s single sculls event, with a stage in Mandinga Lagoon, in this city.
