HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 11 (acn) Ciego de Avila´s Tigers and Isla de la Juventud´s Pirates, will play tonight the last game of the best-of-seven series to define the Cuban Serie Nacional champions.
The unbelievable Pirates forced the seventh game by winning on Friday 5-3, led by the solid performance of reliever Javier Vazquez, who allowed only one earned run in 5 innings and two thirds.
Pirates' manager José Rodríguez Pantoja described last night´s game as hard and said his team went to the field with the mindset of winners, needed to tie the series.
Saturday´s game will be even more complicated, he said before announcing reinforcement Yoalkis Cruz as starter in the decisive match.
Cruz has three starts in the post-season, and though he hasn't achieved a win yet, has had solid performances in all three games, and shows a good 2.86 ERA.
Right-hander Yander Guevara will be the Tigers´ starter. He won two games already, has 1.29 ERA while opponents´ average is an anemic .205.
Tiger trainer Mario Vega ruled out any pressure or nerves in his pupils and added they have lots of experience in playoffs and are ready to fight for, and win, the national title.
