Cuban literacy method shows results in Honduras



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 10 (ACN) The Honduran municipality of Siguatepeque joined the more than 170 free of illiteracy in that Central American country, where the national program “Jose Manuel Flores Arguijo” is being developed with the Cuban methodology Yo Sí Puedo (Yes I Can) and the advice of Cuban educators.

A foreign ministry statement, dated in Tegucigalpa, informs that the Cuban ambassador there, Juan Roberto Loforte Osorio, highlighted the remarkable results achieved so far with the program, created in 2001 by specialists from the Caribbean nation.

During the declaration ceremony, the head of the Cuban mission pointed out that to date the number of literate people in Honduras exceeds 300,000.

He congratulated the country's President, Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, the Minister of Education, Daniel Sponda, the mayors and leaders of the entire Central American country, the thousands of facilitators, the Cuban advisors and especially the literacy students, who accepted the challenge of learning to read and write, according to the information.

The literacy method Yo sí Puedo has made it possible to teach literacy to more than 10 million adults in nearly 30 countries, most of them in the Third World or developing countries.
