HAVANA, Cuba, February 11 (ACN) Given the intensification of the U.S. blockade of Cuba, Russia is going over possible actions to help the island despite the great geographical distance between both nations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed today.
In his statements to the press, Mr. Peskov, who did not give details about the kind of assistance that Russia is considering, stressed that Cuba is coping with serious hardship due to the hostile actions of the U.S. government to asphyxiate the island.
"Fuel is not the issue there, the U.S. blockade is. I do not think it is right for one country to strangle another and its people," he remarked.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denounced the neocolonial stance taken by the United States, reflected in its current actions against Cuba and Venezuela.
"Fighting any neocolonial practice, from unilateral coercive measures to military interventions, is still our focus of attention”, he pointed out.
On January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency, citing the alleged unusual and extraordinary threat posed by Cuba to U.S. national security and imposing harsh tariffs on imports from countries that provide oil to Cuba.
