Russia denounces US neocolonial stances towards Cuba and Venezuela

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denounced today the neocolonial stances of the United States, reflected in its current actions toward Cuba and Venezuela.

"Our focus remains on combating any neocolonial practice, from unilateral coercive measures to military interventions," the Russian Foreign Minister stated.

According to Prensa Latina, in his video message commemorating Russian Diplomats' Day, Lavrov also reaffirmed his country's solidarity with the people of Venezuela and Cuba.

The minister also emphasized that Moscow is convinced that only the Caribbean nations can choose their own destiny.

He further stressed that Russia is committed to continuing the practice of honest international cooperation on equal terms, in accordance with the principles of mutual understanding, trust, and good neighborliness.

For his part, the Russian ambassador to Havana, Viktor Koronelli, stated that Moscow is observing “with great concern the situation in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

” In statements to the Russian news agency TASS, the diplomat noted that the increased pressure and escalating aggressive rhetoric from Washington, especially against Cuba, are undermining security and stability in the region.

He emphasized that the United States' maximum pressure strategy against Cuba, with its recent unilateral restrictions, pursues a single objective: to economically strangle it.
