HAVANA, Cuba, February 10 (ACN) The facade of the European Commission building in Brussels was illuminated with the message "Hands Off Cuba" in solidarity with the island, a fact highlighted by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on social media.
The Foreign Minister thanked the Belgian Association of Solidarity with Cuba, Cubanismo.be, for the initiative, which he described as a gesture of solidarity toward the Caribbean nation in complex circumstances. Cubanismo.be has spearheaded campaigns to publicize the Cuban reality and raise funds for the purchase of medical equipment and supplies, as well as promoting actions against the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
Meanwhile, Cuba denounced the aggressive escalation of the U.S. government against the island at the organizational meeting of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, Prensa Latina reported.
Cuban representative Roberto Cabañas stated that such measures seek to punish the population in violation of their human rights and warned that Washington is threatening tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba. Cabañas added that this policy aims to involve the international community in an energy blockade, under the argument that Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States.
