
HAVANA, Cuba, January 27 (ACN) Cuban residents and friends in Trinidad and Tobago denounced the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and expressed their support to the Cuban people at an event held in Port of Spain, reported the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cubaminrex.
The event was attended by Alvaro Sanchez Cordero, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Gustavo Veliz Olivares, Ambassador of Cuba; and Odalys Perez, President of the Association of Cuban Residents in Trinidad and Tobago “Abraza a Cuba” (Embrace Cuba).
During her remarks, Perez called for the lifting of the U.S. blockade and expressed the Association's solidarity with the Venezuelan people, while also recalling the events of January 3 in Caracas.
Sanchez Cordero expressed gratitude for the sacrifice of the 32 Cubans who gave their lives in defense of President Nicolas MaduroMoros and First Lady Cilia Flores, and highlighted Cuba's ongoing collaboration with Venezuela.
The Venezuelan diplomat also commemorated the 67th anniversary of the visit of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, to Venezuela on January 23, 1959, his first trip abroad after the revolutionary triumph.
Peter Burke, vice president of the Association of Friends of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago, highlighted the historical and solidarity-based ties between the two nations and demanded an end to the blockade that has persisted for more than six decades.
Clyde Callender, president of the Association of Friends of Cuba, and David Abdulah, leader of the Social Justice Movement (SJM), presented Ambassador Veliz with a donation as part of an initiative to support the victims of Hurricane Melissa.
Veliz expressed his gratitude for the support of the Solidarity Movement and the Association of Cuban Residents, and emphasized the importance of this gesture for the Cuban people.
Also participating in the meeting were Raoul Simon, shaman of the Warao people of San Fernando; Roger Belix, representative of the Indigenous Peoples Partners; and Orlando Diaz Gomez, head of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Trinidad and Tobago, along with other members of “Embrace Cuba”.
