Cuba commemorates 60th anniversary of the Tricontinental Conference

HAVANA, Cuba, January 12 (ACN) The International Congress "60 Years After the Tricontinental Conference: Context, Impact, Legacy, and Future" will be opened today in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana (UH) with the participation of more than 200 prominent figures from 27 countries.

The sessions, in coordination with the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, will continue until Wednesday, the Cuban center of higher learning announced exclusively to the Cuban News Agency.

Its program includes 43 panels, 170 speakers, and more than 90 universities and research centers, with the aim of prioritizing the contributions of the Global South, commemorating the six-decade anniversary, and, especially, stimulating important debates on the original event and its relevance to anticolonialism, anti-imperialism, and decolonization.

The first lecture will be given at the Varona Theater by PhD. Luis Suárez Salazar, who will speak on the role of Commander Ernesto "Che" Guevara in the founding of the Organization of Solidarity of the People of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAAL) in 1966 and the Latin American Solidarity Organization (OLAS) in 1967, both in Havana—a little-known story.

The University of Havana Convention Center (Varona Building) and the Fidel Castro Ruz Convention Center are the main venues for the meeting, whose Scientific Council is headed by Miriam Nicado García, Rector of the University of Havana.

The list of represented countries includes Portugal, Finland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Palestine, Cuba, the United States, Mexico, Qatar, Switzerland, Australia, India, Canada, New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Austria.
