Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has condemned U.S. interference in the Latin American region and demanded that the U.S. release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
During his participation in the Extraordinary Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Cuban Foreign Minister warned of the dangers of the White House’s intentions to reinstate a policy of interference through the use of force.
In response to these intentions, he emphasized that “Latin America is not a disputed territory; it belongs to no one but the sovereignty of its people.”
Bruno Rodríguez described the events as an existential threat of historical significance, transcending all political and ideological lines, and called on “all CELAC member states to set aside their differences to collectively defend the foundations of the independence and sovereignty of the countries in the region against this threat.”
He also urged the use of all diplomatic and political efforts to demand due respect for Venezuelan territorial integrity and independence, as well as the immediate release of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
He added that we cannot “allow force and barbarity to prevail over international law” and that we must “demand accountability for those responsible for the aggressions.”
“Cuba rejects the brutal intention to impose military force and the Monroe Doctrine and its enshrinement in the current U.S. military doctrine,” he concluded.
