Havana, Nov 18 (ACN) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced on Tuesday what he described as false pretexts used by the U.S. administration to justify a military aggression against Venezuela.
Rodríguez noted that the U.S. administration seeks to normalize and legitimize an attack against a sovereign nation.
“As a dishonest ploy, they are attempting to link the legitimate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro with drug trafficking and terrorism—two serious international scourges that have only been promoted in this region by the U.S. government, its intelligence and drug agencies, and by individuals associated with those Florida politicians who call for attacking Venezuelan territory,” the foreign minister said.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump refused to rule out a military action against Venezuela, even as he mentioned the possibility of diplomatic engagement with his counterpart Nicolás Maduro.
In mid-August, the U.S. confirmed plans to deploy more than four thousand Marines and sailors to waters surrounding Latin America and the Caribbean, under the justification of fighting drug cartels.
Since early September, Washington has carried out more than ten attacks on boats in the Caribbean that supposedly were transporting drugs.
