Cuba Present at II World Summit on Social Development

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (ACN) Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister of Cuba, is leading the island's representation at the II World Summit on Social Development, which began today in Doha, Qatar.

During the first day of the event, the Doha Political Declaration was adopted, a renewed commitment to confront inequality and social exclusion in an international context of growing geopolitical and economic challenges, the Government of Cuba reported on X.

The summit brings together more than 14,000 participants, including over 40 Heads of State and Government, 170 ministers, and representatives of civil society, youth organizations, and international institutions.

Three decades after the first World Conference on Social Development in Copenhagen, the world is holding its second summit, under the same commitments: to achieve inclusive and sustainable social development for all, through collaboration and collective action.

When participating in the first Conference 30 years ago, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro addressed the challenges of social development and the need for international cooperation.

"The wealth of the world must be better distributed among all nations and within nations; true solidarity must be established among the peoples, and only then can our dreams of today become the realities of tomorrow," stated the historic leader of the Revolution at the time.
