Venezuela stands with Cuba in the fight against US blockade

HAVANA, Cuba, October 28 (ACN) On the first day of a debate leading up to the vote at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on a draft resolution demanding an end to the U.S. blockade of Cuba, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirmed its support for Cuba against this hostile policy.

In his remarks, Samuel Moncada, Venezuelan ambassador to the UN, stated that every year Cuba suffers losses exceeding USD five billion, which has negative impacts on the country's socioeconomic development, as a result of what he called an act of economic warfare intended to subdue an entire people through hunger, disease, and death and a fact that the US government tries to conceal by tagging this crime a mere political measure.

Mr. Moncada pointed out that Venezuela is fully aware of its position, as it is the target of a similar attack by the US imperial regime, and stressed that over the past year Washington has tried to tarnish Cuban international solidarity through a smear campaign against the medical cooperation program, the same program that saved lives worldwide during the worst phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While some send bombs and weapons as part of their strategy of perpetual war, Cuba sends doctors, and that is why it is attacked, because its example exposes the hypocrisy of those who claim to defend freedom”, he pointed out, adding that the designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism is a baseless decision and an insult to historical truth and the current reality.

The diplomat held that voting for Cuba is voting for justice, peace, and life, in reference to the vote scheduled to be held on Wednesday at the UN General Assembly on the resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba", steadily supported by the majority of the countries of the world since 1992.
