Brazilian theologian Frei Betto calls to increase actions against the US blockade on Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 13 (ACN) Brazilian theologian Frei Betto called for increased action against the US blockade on Cuba in a lecture evoking Fidel Castro's work during the 9th Continental Latin American and Caribbean Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, which concluded on Sunday in Mexico City.

He highlighted the Commander in Chief's legacy "for his country, the continent, and the world," urging people to join in the activities for the centennial of his birth next year.

Before 500 delegates from some 30 nations, Betto, a friend of the Commander in Chief, evoked his rejection of the cult of personality, recalling Marti's quote that reiterated, "All the glory of the world fits in a grain of corn."

At the lecture, he delved into the negative effects of the blockade imposed by the United States on the island and its absurd inclusion on the list of terrorist countries, which further tightens the siege and impedes financial transactions.

The worsening of this policy of economic suffocation has greatly affected the people's living conditions, he emphasized, and called on solidarity activists "to mobilize extensively to combat and condemn it until Cuba emerges from the difficult situation it is currently experiencing."

He suggested increasing the number of associations, groups, and teams supporting the Cuban Revolution, carrying out various fundraising activities, and recruiting more people.

"We have to be creative and ask ourselves what more we can do for Cuba," he stated. After four days of work, the Continental Meeting will conclude this Sunday with a Final Declaration that will outline the objectives of the Solidarity Movement with greater coordination and integration of actions in the region.
