HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) Army General Raul Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed, in a letter to João Lourenço, President of Angola, their interest in strengthening ties between the two countries.
The letter was delivered to the Angolan head of state during an audience at the Presidential Palace in Ciudad Alta, Luanda, by Oscar Leon, Cuban ambassador to Angola, the Cuban Foreign Ministry (Minrex by its Spanish acronym) stated on its official website.
Cuban diplomat told the press after the meeting that Raul Castro and Diaz-Canel letter reflects their mutual interest in strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation, in a year that marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on November 15.
He affirmed that the celebration will be an excellent opportunity to deepen friendship between people and expand cooperation in all possible fields.
Leon added that during the meeting, he spoke with the Angolan president about the state of bilateral relations and informed him of the actions taken to materialize the agreements and instruments signed between the two nations.
He specifically mentioned those signed in 2023, when the Cuban president visited Luanda in August, and later with the Angolan head of state's visit to Havana in September of the same year.
The Foreign Ministry highlighted in its publication that Cuba and Angola maintain historic relations marked by the military cooperation provided by the Caribbean country since 1975, the training of Angolan professionals on the island, as well as collaboration in health, education, and other sectors.
