HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 15 (ACN) Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and respect for international law today, speaking on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter during the 60th session of the Human Rights Council.
According to the official website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, from UN headquarters in Geneva, the Cuban representative emphasized the need to preserve a just and equitable international order, based on the sovereign equality of states, non-meddling in their internal affairs, and respect for the right to self-determination.
The source emphasizes that in its statement, Cuba denounced the US military escalation in Latin America and the Caribbean, describing it as a direct threat to regional peace and the sovereignty of Venezuela.
Cuban statement emphasized that the attempt to link the Venezuelan government with criminal organizations constitutes an unfounded pretext that puts the human rights of the Venezuelan people at risk.
On behalf of the Group of Friends, the text specifies, Cuba urged Washington to cease its hostile actions and expressed its strong solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela.
The active participation of its national representation in this international forum consolidates its role as a defender of the founding principles of the UN and as a firm voice in the protection of peace and sovereignty in Latin America.
The Group of Friends is made up of countries such as Belarus, Bolivia, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, Russia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, among others.
