Laotian Minister Says his Country will Keep Supporting Cuba

Havana, Sept 8 (ACN) Laos will continue to support Cuba on its path to development, in the fight against the US blockade said Laotian Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane who also advocated for strengthening and expanding ties between both countries.

The diplomat made his statements the capital Vientiane and referred to the shared history between the two countries for more than five decades, to the existing links between the Communist Party of Cuba and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and between Commander Fidel Castro Ruz and President Kaysone Phomvihane.

Cuba backed our struggle for independence by providing us with assistance, especially with medicines and doctors who worked in the north, in the areas of revolutionary resistance, in the caves of Viengsay, he declared.

The diplomat also referred to the educational exchange between the two countries, which has contributed to the strengthening of friendship, and cooperation relations.

The Laotian government official said Lao’s nationals graduated as medical doctors in Cuba will continue to build bridges between the peoples and governments of the two nations.

He said that the visit by “comrade Díaz-Canel is very significant, especially at a time when the situation in the region and on the planet has become uncertain,” and he went on to call for the strengthening of relations between Laos and Cuba, especially in areas such as trade, investment and also health, in which it is so advanced.
