Cuba congratulates Vietnam on its 80th anniversary of independence

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) Army General Raul Castro Ruz and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel sent congratulatory messages today to the highest authorities of Vietnam on the 80th anniversary of the Asian nation's declaration of independence.

In a message to To Lam, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Raul Castro Ruz highlighted that country's historic example of resilience and reaffirmed his willingness to strengthen brotherhood, cooperation, and solidarity ties, Prensa Latina reported.

Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCPCC), emphasized in his congratulatory message that Vietnam's achievements are inspired by the legacy of President Ho Chi Minh and the leadership of the CPV, and reiterated his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Cuban leader also sent a message to Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, in which he emphasized that each of his nation's victories has been a source of inspiration and joy for Cuba.

For his part, Cuban PM Manuel Marrero Cruz congratulated the people and the Communist Party of Vietnam and described bilateral ties as a model of friendship and cooperation, rooted in the defense of sovereignty.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee, also expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese leadership and recalled the legacy of Ho Chi Minh on the 56th anniversary of his death. Cuba and Vietnam celebrate the strength of a relationship that, over 65 years, has withstood changes in the international scenario and remains a model of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation.

Among the most recent proves of closeness is the national fundraising campaign launched in Vietnam by the Red Cross, which exceeded $15.2 million to support Cuba amid its economic challenges.

The relationship between the two countries dates back to 1960, when Cuba was the first American state to recognize the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, providing assistance in the form of food, medicine, medical personnel, military support, and infrastructure construction.

Historic moments such as Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz's visit to Quang Tri in 1973, where he expressed that "for Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give even its own blood," remain symbols of an alliance that transcends generations, reaffirmed today by the authorities of both countries with the commitment to deepen political, economic, and cultural exchanges, and cooperation in defense of sovereignty and sustainable development.
