Cuban President Expresses Solidarity with Vietnam

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 28 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed all of Cuba's solidarity and support to the Party, the Government, and the people of sister Vietnam, following the victims and damage caused by Typhoon Kajiki.

Through his account on the social network X, the Cuban president sent heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

"We express all our solidarity and support to the Party, the Government, and the people of sister #Vietnam, for the victims and damage caused by Typhoon Kajiki. Heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased."*

This message adds to one previously expressed by Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who lamented the loss of human lives and the material damage caused by this meteorological phenomenon.

According to local media reports, the typhoon has so far caused seven fatalities, 47 injured, thousands of displaced families, and damage to over 30,000 homes in several provinces.

Intense rains increase the risk of floods and landslides, hindering access to assistance in the most affected provinces of Thanh Hóa, Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang, on the eastern coast of Vietnam, where 152,387 households, equivalent to nearly 587,000 people, were evacuated.

Kajiki, the fifth tropical storm of the season in Southeast Asia, hit with winds between 118 and 149 kilometers per hour (km/h) with gusts of up to 167 km/h, moving west at about 20 km/h.
