HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) Cuban authorities expressed today their solidarity with Turkey in response to the strong earthquake that struck the northwest of the country, causing at least one death and material damage.
Esteban Lazo, president of the Parliament and the Council of State, sent a supporting message to the Turkish people, their legislature, and other authorities in response to Sunday's earthquake, which had a 6.1-magnitude.
"Deepest condolences to the families of the victims. May they recover quickly from the damage," Esteban Lazo added.
For his part, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, also expressed his condolences and solidarity with the government and people of Turkey for the victims and material damage caused by the earthquake, which occurred in the province of Balıkesir.
Press reports indicate that the earthquake caused at least one death and some 29 were injured. In addition, the reports state, 16 buildings collapsed in the region, and two mosque minarets collapsed.
