Cape Verdeans trained in Cuba to practice medicine in their country

HAVANA, Cuba, August 4 (ACN) Four young Cape Verdeans who recently completed their medical studies in Cuba will join the Cape Verde National Health System as part of the historic bilateral cooperation program between the two nations.

According to a statement published today on the official website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Leonilde Fidel da Cruz, Esmael Pereira Moreira, Alexandra Solange Gonçalves, and Delsy de Jesus Silva Cabral received their doctorates in medicine, while Kethienne Fonseca Monteiro will complete her training next December.

All of them are part of the contingent of Cape Verdean students who have been trained in Cuba since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975.

The text quotes Edna Barreto, Cape Verde's ambassador to Cuba, who highlighted that eight other students are currently continuing their medical training in the Caribbean country, with graduations expected between 2026 and 2029.

Of these, one specializes in General Comprehensive Medicine, she specified.

In this regard, the publication emphasizes that the Cape Verdean Ministry of Health congratulated the new professionals and expressed its confidence that they will actively contribute to strengthening the national health system upon their return to the country.
