The triumph of the Sandinista Revolution marked the definitive end of the Somoza dictatorship that ravaged Nicaragua for more than half a century and paved the way for the struggle to achieve sovereignty and socioeconomic development based on the anti-imperialist legacy of Augusto César Sandino (1895-1934), not without great obstacles and temporary setbacks caused mainly by the open war imposed on them by US imperialism and its acolytes.
Today, their battle to build a more supportive, equitable, and developed society continues amidst turbulence, but with the impetus and heroism of the valiant Sandinista Revolution that triumphed on July 19, 1979.
