Venezuelan solidarity group condemns sanctions against Cuban president

HAVANA, Cuba, July 13 (ACN) The Venezuela-Cuba National Movement of Mutual Friendship and Solidarity categorically decried the imposition of illegitimate sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, whom it described as a great friend of Venezuela.

In a statement issued in Caracas and reported by the news agency Prensa Latina, the solidarity organization remarked that these actions "represent a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples" and stress that Díaz-Canel, along with Presidents Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, among others, embody the anti-imperialist resistance in the region and bravely champion the principles of social justice, independence, and national dignity.

The text refers to the unwavering friendship between Caracas and Havana, forged throughout decades of common struggle against the hegemony and despotic pretensions of foreign powers, and notes that the "interventionist measures against our brother Díaz-Canel only reinforce our resolve to remain united in the defense of the Cuban and Bolivarian revolutions."

It also insists that the Donald Trump administration has no moral justification for these sanctions and that no slander spread by or unhealthy obsession of figures like US Secretary of State Marco Rubio can bend the will of the Cuban and Venezuelan peoples.
"History," it declared, "will judge the enemies of peace while Cuba and Venezuela continue to write pages of dignity and victory."

The movement denounced "before the world the hypocrisy" of those who accuse Cuba and Venezuela of alleged violations while they finance coups d'état, promote criminal sanctions, and strive to stifle national economies to satisfy their geopolitical interests.

The statement calls Díaz-Canel “a legitimate leader elected by his people whose commitment to the humble is unquestionable” and calls on social movements, progressive governments and popular, political and solidarity organizations around the world to close ranks against this new attack by the United States government.

It also emphasizes that the friendship between the two nations is a bastion of hope for the peoples who yearn for a future free from imperial domination, and reasserts that the Movement will keep working tirelessly to strengthen Latin American and Caribbean unity based on the ideals of Simón Bolívar, José Martí, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chávez.
