Cuba presents progress at world forum on financial intelligence



 HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 11 (ACN) Cuba presents progress in preventing and combating financial crimes, as well as its commitment to international cooperation in this field, during the 31st plenary session of the Egmont Group, an international forum on financial intelligence currently being held in Luxembourg.

A post on the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX by its Spanish acronym) reports that representatives from 170 countries, including Cuba, are participating in the event.

The event marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Egmont Group, a global network of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) that plays a key role in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, and other scourges of organized crime.

Cuban delegation, comprised of Armando Torres, deputy director general of the General Directorate of Financial Operations Investigation at the Central Bank of Cuba, and Yasmary Rodriguez, Knowledge Management Manager at the same institution, participated in sessions dedicated to the operational autonomy of FIUs, resources to combat illicit finance, and the future of the Egmont secure network.

Likewise, Cuban representatives highlighted national actions to strengthen information exchange, technical training, international cooperation, and regulatory support.
