Cuba, an inspiring sister

HAVANA, Cuba, July 6 (ACN) In the context of the 17th BRICS Summit, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez met in Rio de Janeiro with Washington Quaquá, mayor of the municipality of Maricá and vice president of the Workers' Party (PT) of Brazil.

“It was very important for us to have this meeting (…) with a great friend of Cuba,” the Cuban leader told his host. "It is a pleasure to meet with you here, in your country, in your region".

Díaz-Canel referred to the valuable opportunities to develop links between the two countries in fields like the biopharmaceutical industry and biotechnology, as well as technology transfer, with Cuba as a potential hub for exports to Latin America, and food sovereignty, based on their strong bonds of friendship and their cooperation in culture, sports, and science and innovation.

On his end, Washington Quaquá said that it was a great pleasure to welcome Díaz-Canel in Brazil and described Cuba as “a sister country and an inspiration” given what he called “the legacies that the Cuban Revolution has left us all”.

The mayor also remarked that Brazil is well aware of the difficulties facing Cuba, a country which has become “a terrible example for capitalism and for a hegemonic society used to treating people as commodities”. (…) We stand by the Cuban Revolution and the utopias that have always motivated us."
