HAVANA, Cuba, July 2 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, denounced today the recent opening of the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in the state of Florida, with the support of anti-Cuban political sectors.
On X, Rodriguez Parrilla emphasized that the support given to the facility by legislators of Cuban origin demonstrates their betrayal of their constituents, in exchange for thousands of dollars from the anti-immigrant lobby and the sympathy of the United States government.
It is urgent that the rights of detained migrants be respected." Different voices have demanded respect for the rights of migrants detained at the center, whose creation comes amid a context of growing hostility toward migratory flows primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean, Cuban diplomat expressed.
Alligator Alcatraz, opened Tuesday and considered a testament to the current US administration's crackdown on immigration, is located in a remote area of Everglades National Park, about 60 kilometers from Miami. It was built in just one week on a remote landing strip with tents and trailers typically used after a natural disaster.
