HAVANA, Cuba, June 29 (ACN) Cuban authorities congratulated the government and people of Seychelles on the 49th anniversary of its independence and wished them progress and prosperity.
According to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cuban embassy in Victoria delivered congratulatory messages from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez to their Seychellois counterparts.
On June 29, 1976, the flag of Seychelles was raised for the first time in its history as a free and sovereign nation after thousands of its citizens fought for independence from the British.
Cuba and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on April 12, 1978, based on friendship, solidarity, and cooperation.
A news agency Prensa Latina report has it that in September 2024 both states signed several agreements on mutual assistance for the transfer of sanctioned persons and the execution of criminal sentences, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation between the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Seychelles.
