HAVANA, Cuba, June 22 (ACN) Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement decrying the US attacks against Iran and their potential for military escalation in the Middle East.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The threat of a direct US aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, encouraged by the genocidal government of Israel, became a reality with the cowardly bombardment of the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.
Cuba strongly condemns these grave acts as a dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law.
The Cuban government reiterates its solidarity with the Iranian people and government.
With this irresponsible action, the United States recklessly compromises the search for regional peace while dragging humanity into a crisis of incalculable consequences.
By attacking nuclear facilities under the safeguards regime of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United States government is also committing a grave violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
We call once again on the United Nations General Assembly and its Security Council to exercise their primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security; to mobilize worldwide to condemn this aggression and prevent its continuation, and to act tirelessly to restore peace, with the urgency and determination that the moment demands.
