HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 10 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reasserted his unwavering support for former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner after the Argentine Supreme Court of Justice upheld her six-year sentence (to be served under house arrest given her advanced age) and a lifetime ban from public office.
In his message, the Cuban leader called the ruling an episode of political judicialization and stressed that justice is once again being used with political motivations as an instrument of the right wing against progressive leaders in the region.
Her sentence, ratified unanimously by judges Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz and Ricardo Lorenzetti, prevents Kirchner from running in the next legislative elections in September.
The Peronista leader announced that she will appeal to the International Criminal Court, alleging "arbitrariness" and violation of the Rome Statute.
