Havana, April 22 (ACN) The Soviet Union made the major contribution to defeat fascism in World War II and prevented it from invading other countries, diplomats and experts agreed during a seminar in Havana on Tuesday.
Western Powers try to manipulate the historic truth, which 80 years ago led to the victory of the Red Army and its allies against the Hittler forces on May 9th , 1945, said Russian ambassador to Cuba Victor Koronelli.
During the seminar, held at Havana’s Higher Institute of Foreign Relations, Koronelli stressed the courage and heroism of Russian soldiers, which was crucial to defeat the German invaders, Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The Russian diplomat also recalled the high cost of the conflict for his country, translated into 27 million people under the shelling, in combats, and due to hunger and extermination in Nazi concentration camps.
Koronelli thanked Cuba for its contribution to the defense of the truth of the Homeland Great War and the heroism of the USSR people in World War II. He also recalled the joining of the Red Army by Cubans Aldo Vivo, Jorge Vivo and Enrique Vilar.
The meeting, attended by foreign relations students, also marked the 155th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilich Lenin.
