Havana, April 22 (ACN) The humanitarian scenario in the Gaza Strip is on the brink of collapse as a consequence of Israel’s attacks and blockade, Palestine official sources denounced on Tuesday.
The Palestinian government press office in Gaza said that over two million citizens are under threat by lack of foodstuffs. The continuous, deliberate blockade by Israel of Access to humanitarian aid during more than a month now has significantly deepened the crisis.
The office particularly referred to over one million minors undergoing malnutrition amidst a serious shortage of food and drinking water, the almost complete collapse of the health system and the impossibility of meeting the basic living necessities.
The Israeli troops attacked more than 37 aid distribution centers and 28 food stocks, the office denounced and went on to denounce that the bombardment against the zone is “part of a systematic plan to impose famine as a war tool against the civilian population.”
“What’s happening in the Strip is not just a temporary crisis, but war crimes,” the office denounced as cited by Prensa Latina wire service.
This week the head of the International Red Cross Committee in the Strip, Adrian Zimmerman, described the living conditions in the territory as “hell on Earth.” Everyday life ion Gaza has become an endless survival mission, he noted.
Meanwhile the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) alerted about the serious deterioration of the situation in Gaza, revealed by the increase of the number of minors under treatment for malnutrition.
