Cuban Official Meets with African Americans in Washington DC

Havana, Feb 27 (ACN) Cuba’s deputy foreign minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio met with a group of African American citizens at the Cuban embassy in Washington DC on the occasion of Black History Month.

The Cuban official briefed participants at the encounter on the island’s political and social scenario, particularly the struggle of Cubans to achieve, equity and justice for all.

Fernandez stressed the connection between the Cuban Revolution with Africa and its people; he recalled the participation of Cubans in the liberation wars in Africa.

The Cuban government official blasted statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who called Cuba an enemy of humanity; he also condemned the most recent coercive US measures aimed at damaging Cuban international collaboration, particularly in the healthcare sector.

He recalled that Cuba has offered its services around the world, which could be unprecedented in terms of medical and education assistance. Cuban healthcare professionals are currently assisting some 70 countries, many of them located in Africa.

The deputy minister also referred to US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba in particular to Washington’s chase and punishment of tankers of shipping companies supplying oil to the island nation.

During the meeting, participants were interested in learning more about different topics, as they addressed the host with their questions and also expressed their solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.
