HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State of Cuba, arrived in Namibia at the head of a delegation to attend the State Funeral of the Founding Father of that southwest African nation, and its first President, Sam Nujoma.
On the occasion of Sam Nujoma's death on February 8, 2025 at the age of 95, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared a two-day Official Mourning and a National Mourning on February 12.
The National Assembly posted a message on its website highlighting Sam Nujoma's special affection for Cuba and his support to the Revolution, as well as his recognition of the struggles for the liberation of Africa and the end of apartheid and his close friendship with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
In 1991 Sam Nujoma was awarded the José Martí Order, the highest distinction granted by the Cuban State.
