HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (ACN) The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, the highest distinction granted by Japanese Emperor Naruhito to foreign citizens, was awarded to Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, deputy prime minister of Cuba, for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The solemn ceremony took place at the Embassy of Japan in Havana, where Ambassador Nakamura Kazuhito presented the Cuban official with the high decoration.
Cabrisas, who served as Cuba's ambassador to Tokyo in the 1970s, played a key role in the development of stronger ties between the two nations and has since excelled in promoting cooperation and economic-commercial ties between Cuba and Japan.
The decoration "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun" is awarded to people who have made outstanding achievements in international relations, the promotion of Japanese culture, or the preservation of the environment.
