Havana, Feb 6 (ACN) Cuba’s permanent representative at the United Nations Ernesto Soberon appreciated the support and trust expressed in the election of his country as vice-president of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).
A news release on the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website on Wednesday reads that the diplomat stressed the island nation’s commitment to keep defending the Palestinian cause.
Cuba will keep demanding the immediate and unconditional full-fledged UN membership of the Palestinian state, said the Cuban diplomat. He underscored the necessary, fair and lasting solution of the conflict and the recognition of an independent Palestinian state within the borders prior to 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital city, and along with this the return of all refugees.
The article reads that Soberon made his remarks in the presence of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. He rejected the banning by Israel of the United Nations Agency for the Palestinian Refugees in the Near East in the Gaza Strip.
The Cuban representative also condemned Israeli military operations in the West Bank, describing them as genocide against the Palestinian people.lc
