HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 5 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla stressed that Gaza belongs to the people of Palestine, in reference to U.S. plans to take control over the said coastal enclave, currently devastated by Israel's attacks.
In his message, Rodríguez Parrilla remarked that Tel Aviv and its sponsor, the United States, must respect the sovereignty of the Palestinians and recognize an independent Palestine within the pre-1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem as the only possible alternative to put an end to the conflict.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump proposed a U.S. takeover of Gaza after all Palestinians resettle elsewhere.
At a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said that he would create "an economic development that will supply an unlimited number of jobs and housing for people in the area; do real work, do something different."
In Gaza, according to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, there are 42 million tons of rubble created by the destruction of buildings, roads and other infrastructures after more than 15 months of Israeli offensive against the Strip.
Official data have it that some 47,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have died since October 2023, and 14,200 are still missing.
