President of the Sri Lankan parliament receives Cuban ambassador



HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (ACN) Jagath Wickramaratne, speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, received Cuban Ambassador Andres Marcelo Gonzalez Garrido, with whom he held a fraternal meeting at the headquarters of the Sri Lankan legislature.

According to the Cuban foreign ministry, during the visit they discussed common issues related to the historic relations between the two countries and the reactivation of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Friendship Association in the Parliament.

The ambassador gave the speaker a letter of congratulations on his recent appointment from the President of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernandez.

He also informed the President of the Parliament about the recent declaration of the revolutionary Government of Cuba, on January 21, denouncing before the world the decision of the new US administration to reinstate the harsh measures of economic warfare against Cuba, returning it to the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

Wickramaratne was elected Speaker of Parliament on December 17, 2024, is a doctor by profession and was elected MP for the Polonnaruwa district.
