Countries salute Cuba's removal from list of sponsors of terrorism

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (ACN) Cuba has received many messages of support following the U.S. government’s decision to remove the island from the State Department's list of state sponsors of terrorism.

A communiqué from the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the decision as limited, calling it an unjust designation that should never have been made and a step that must come together with the immediate lifting of the 60-plus-year-old U.S. blockade largely condemned by the international community.

“Cuba has long been a victim rather than a promoter of terrorism and has proved its commitment to peace and global solidarity by mediating in conflicts and supporting the peoples of the world”, the note remarks.

Likewise, the Bolivarian Republic demanded the U.S. to respect the United Nations Charter, stop the political and economic harassment of Cuba, and put an end to all unilateral sanctions that violate the sovereignty of the peoples.

On his end, Bolivian President Luis Arce wrote in a post on X that "reason, truth and justice have prevailed" and the decision is not only a recognition of the sovereignty and persistent struggle of the Cuban people, but also an important step towards the urgent elimination of the U.S. blockade of Cuba, “as repeatedly demanded at the United Nations General Assembly by the vast majority of the member countries”.

Furthermore, a note issued by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) celebrated the exclusion of Cuba from the said list and declared its hopes that it will be the first of other steps toward the end of the genocidal and illegal policy of economic warfare against Cuba, “which has caused unjustified suffering and pain to the Cuban people for more than six decades”.
