HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) Cuba reiterated today its condemnation of those who have committed and are committing acts against humanity.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Commemoration and Dignification of the Victims of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, especially recalled the noble people of Palestine, victim of the Israeli genocide.
According to official figures up to November, 70 % of the dead in Gaza are women and children.
The date was adopted by resolution 69/323 of September 29, 2015, when the UN General Assembly established December 9 as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.
This year also marks the 74th anniversary of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the "Genocide Convention"), the first human rights treaty adopted by the General Assembly.
This document represents the international community's commitment to "never again" committing such crimes and provides the first international legal definition of "genocide", adopted at the national and international level.
Each year, the United Nations Office on the Prevention of Genocide and the Responsibility to Protect organizes events to commemorate this International Day, in honor of the victims of genocide and the anniversary of the Convention.
