Venezuela Rejects Southern Command-Guyana Joint Military Drill

Havana, Dec 3 (ACN) The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemned joint actions to expand military bases by the US Southern Command on Guyanese territory, and asserted that such drills go against regional stability and peace.

The expansion of US military bases in Guyana, including the military use of the Brigadier Gary Beaton airfield, in the Essequibo, are unacceptable as they represent a new provocation by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, reads a communique issued by the Venezuelan government, cited by Telesur TV network.

Caracas reaffirmed its commitment to peace in Latin America and urged Guyana to immediately stop actions that endanger the safety of the region, reads the statement, which notes that Venezuela will keep its rights over the Essequibo through peaceful and diplomatic means.
