HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel wished former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador a happy 71st birthday, calling him dear brother and assuring that Cuba will never forget his generous support in hard times.
López Obrador entered politics in the 1970s through the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) as a member of the campaign to elect the poet Carlos Pellicer to the Senate of the Republic for the state of Tabasco.
In 2014 he founded the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party and became President of Mexico in 2018, when he launched his work model Fourth Transformation.
During his term in office, he based his ideology on the implementation of policies to counteract the ravages of inequality and corruption, and to this end raised the minimum wage and launched social programs for disadvantaged sectors.
May 2024 marked the 122nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Mexico with a commitment to strengthen their historic ties of brotherhood.
