Claudia Sheinbaum Takes Office as First Woman President of Mexico

 Havana, Oct 1 (ACN) Claudia Sheinbaum was inaugurated on Tuesday as the first female president in the history of Mexico.

During the inauguration at the Union Congress, Sheinbaum took her oath and received the presidential sash from the president of the Mexican Congress, Ifigenia Martinez, previously handed over by outgoing president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, PL news reported.

The inauguration was attended by heads of state and high-level officials from over 100 nations and 23 international organizations, including Cuba’s Migue Diaz-Canel, Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Colombia’s Gustavo Petro, and Honduras’ Xiomara Castro.

Sheinbaum got an overwhelming electoral victory on June 2nd with over 35.9 million votes which turned her into the presidential candidate with more votes Iin the recent history of Mexico.

The first female president of Mexico declared herself a follower of the humanistic, transforming and social justice project headed by her predecessor Lopez Obrador, which managed to reduce poverty and inequality in the country.lc
