Solidarity campaign with Puerto Rico continues in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) The Solidarity Day with Puerto Rico, sponsored by the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), will continue Tuesday with a visit of a Puerto Rican delegation to the Fidel Castro Ruz Center until next Friday.

David Rivera Lopez, Jorge Tantao Echevarria and Edwin Gonzalez Vazquez, of the National Hostosian Independence Movement (struggle for the freedom of the Puerto Rican homeland), along with ICAP directors and provincial representatives of the institution in Pinar del Rio and Villa Clara are taking part in the event.

The activities began on Monday with wreaths to the National Hero Jose Marti and Ramon Emeterio Betances, Father of the Puerto Rican Homeland, in front of their monuments in the Central Park and in the Fraternity Park, in Havana.

Julia Cabrera, on behalf of ICAP, emphasized that the program is part of the Day for Peace, against the blockade and terrorism that the institute has been carrying out since September 4 until the next vote in October at the UN on the need to put an end to the economic siege of the United States against Cuba.

The Puerto Rican Mission to Cuba, the first and only embassy of Puerto Rico in the world, founded on March 8, 1966 by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Juan Mari Bras, Puerto Rican independence leader, will be present at the Solidarity Day.

Tribute will also be paid to General Juan Rius Rivera (highest ranking Puerto Rican military officer in the Cuban Liberation Army); to Juan Mari Bras on the 14th anniversary of his death; and to independence fighter Filiberto Ojeda, assassinated on September 23, 2005, while the Cuba Solidarity Committee in Puerto Rico will be recognized on its 32nd anniversary.
