According to local newspaper Tribuna de la Habana, at the welcoming of the Asian delegation on Monday, Jesus Otamendiz Campos, vice governor of Havana, reaffirmed the unbreakable ties of relations between the two countries.

He specified that the objective of the meeting is to strengthen relations between the two local governments, for which a MOU will be organized between the two provinces and the municipalities of Havana and Beijing.
Cuba established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1960, being the first country in the western hemisphere to recognize the New China.
