Cuba hails 199th anniversary of Bolivia's independence

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 7 (ACN) A hymn to Latin American unity and against coup attempts in the region marked the celebrations of the 199th anniversary of Bolivia's independence at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

“The sister Andean nation has stood its ground and proved to the world and especially to the enemies of peace that Bolivia does not surrender", ICAP president Fernando Gonzalez remarked.

The official decried the genocidal blockade of Cuba, the failed coup attempt in Bolivia last June and recently in Venezuela, ratified the island’s solidarity with the just causes of the peoples, and condemned all forms of imperialist interference.

On her end, the ambassador to Cuba of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Yeshika Crespo, paid tribute to the Bolivians who died “fighting against and defeating invaders, conquistadores, colonizers and imperialists to build a free, independent and sovereign homeland. (…) Our independence and sovereignty are under threat for the sin of having strategic natural resources such as such as silver, tin and now lithium".

The diplomat referred the U.S. blockade as immoral, condemned the presence of Cuba on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism, and praised the courage of the Cuban people and their endless solidarity.
