LATAM Activists Join Commemoration for Fidel Castro 98th Birthday

Havana, Aug 2(ACN) Members of the 29th Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity-with-Cuba Brigade arrived at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp here to join Cubans during commemorations for the 98th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on August 13th.

Cuban Friendship Institute president Fernando Gonzalez thanked the activists for their visit, which he described as a significant expression of support of a nation enduring the economic blockade imposed by the United States, as part of his policy of pressure against the Cuban Revolution.

Gonzalez told the 57 activists from Argentina, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, that they will be able to exchange with the people, visit institutions, meet the people, who are resisting and will not yield, backed by international solidarity.

He called the brigadistas to support the ninth Latin American and Caribbean Encounter to take place in Mexico next year. The event will consider working proposals to commemorate the one hundredth birthday of Fidel Castro in 2026.

Puerto Rican activist Milagros Rivera, representing the Continental Network in Solidarity with Cuba, stressed the significance of unity in defense of fair causes and she condemned the imperialist maneuvers against Venezuela.

The activists’ includes a tribute to Fidel starting August 12th with a lecture on his legacy and ideas, a solidarity meeting and a night concert on the eve of August 13th, a day dedicate to voluntary work.
