UN experts demand end of U.S. blockade

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 30 (ACN) The Special Rapporteur on the Negative Impact of Unilateral Coercive Measures on the Enjoyment of Human Rights, as well as the Independent Experts on Human Rights and International Solidarity, issued a press release demanding the U.S. government to lift the blockade of Cuba and remove the island from the list of alleged State Sponsors of Terrorism.

The statement highlights the harmful effects of the said policies on the living conditions of the Cuban people and the fact that they breach the fundamental tenets of international law regarding the sovereign equality of States, the prohibition to intervene in the internal affairs of countries, and the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes.

The text, published on the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, comes on top of other messages sent to the U.S. by UN experts in January and February 2024 about the impact of these measures on Cuba.

Recently, at the Human Rights Council, 123 UN member states also demanded that Cuba be removed from the spurious list of sponsors of terrorism, which reasserts the isolation of the U.S. in terms of its hostile Cuba policy.
