Cuba Vice-president Pays Visit to South Africa

Havana, Jun 18 (ACN) Cuban vice-president Salvador Valdes kicked off a visit to South Africa by paying homage to the over 2 thousand Internationalist Cubans fell in Africa, at the Freedom Park Wall of Names.

While being welcomed by South African deputy minister for Sports, Arts and Culture Pinky Kekana, Valdes said that the trip was long to reach South Africa, but when friendship exists you never feel the distance.

After laying a wreath at the Wall of Names, Valdes met with Cuban workers in that country, as well as with members of the South African union movement and solidarity groups.

On behalf of South African authorities, deputy minister Kekana recalled the history of Cuba-South Africa relations and the strong friendship between Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro.

She affirmed her country’s commitment to keep on with the excellent cooperation links between Havana and Pretoria.

The Cuban vice-president also referred to the thousands of Cuban workers who are helping improve the quality of life of the South African people in areas like healthcare, education, construction and agriculture.

The top Cuban official arrived Tuesday morning in South Africa to participate at the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa, who was reelected for a new five-year presidential term.
