Havana, Nov 11 (ACN) The 15th Regional Conference on Latin American and Caribbean Women condemned unilateral coercive measures like the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.
During the conference’s last session of debates, representatives of governments, academies and civil society organizations considered such measures as a violation of human rights, according to PL news agency.
Such policies hinders the development of the countries by generating social inequality with huge impact on the life of women, particularly in times of crisis, said the representatives from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The general secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation, Teresa Amarelle, explained that the US blockade is the major obstacle against the implementation of social programs in Cuba as it affects the capacity of response to situations like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amarelle also criticized the inclusion of here country in the unilateral US list of countries sponsors of international terrorism and thanked the support of so many countries against such actions.
The Conference, called by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, was held under the theme: “The care society: horizon for a sustainable recovery with gender equality.”
