Havana, February 11 (ACN) Cuba stakes its qualification for the semifinals of the 2026 Americas Baseball Series when they play Colombia’s Caimanes de Barranquilla today.
The Colombians (3-2) are already qualified despite their 5-11 loss yesterday to host Venezuela’s Navegantes de Magallanes.
If the Cubans (2-3) beat the Caimanes, they will push the Caimanes down to third place and secure a place in the playoffs. However, they might still qualify even if they lose, contingent on the game between the Venezuelans and the Curaçaoans, since a win for the latter would create a three-way or even a four-way tie, but a loss would give right of way to the Nicaraguans, who defeated Cuba in the opener.
Team Cuba won victories over Argentina (10-0) and Curaçao (14-12) and lost to Nicaragua (4-5), Venezuela (4-8), and Panama (6-7), so their best shot at avoiding elimination lies in defeating the Colombians.
